What a wonderful psalm this is. So much there to uplift, encourage, support, and comfort. Every line contains so much.
The Lord is our strength in our weakness; in time of despair and panic He is ready with His strong arm to support our shivering limbs and emotions.
Our rock! In my mind this is not a puny pebble on a beach, no, no. I see a huge outcrop on a mountain top, something massy and age-old, something that will never crumble in the foreseeable future.
To be standing on that is significant. Not only is it immovable, but what a view is to be had, so far above our trouble and worries.
Fortresses were awesome in ancient times. Walls two metres thick or more, solid stone, built in a superior place, designed to withstand months or even years of siege. Inside were all the provisions needed for survival, including dwellings, water, food. It is said that the seige of Troy lasted ten years. This is but a shadow of protection the Lord offers.
The Lord is our Saviour. So many psalms speak of this. Being saved means so much, physical, emotional, spiritual salvation. Oscar, I pray you might know the Lord’s salvation in every area of you life. Salvation from fear is primary. I pray you might know that today.
“Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
The Lord made righteousness available by dying for you. When you accepted Him as your Lord He made you righteous. You receive His favour, it is a shield to defend yourself.
Who is more powerful than The Lord God?
Jer. 32.17 “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
Thank You, Lord, that You do not leave us as we are. You bring us to a place of safety in You. You surround us with Your love, and prepare a place for us. You heal us from our hurts, from our heart-sickness and bring us to a place of total peace when we place our lives in Your hands.
May Oscar know the extent of Your love for him today. May he once again place his life in Your hands.
May he “lie down and sleep in peace because You, oh Lord, keep (him) perfectly safe.”
Ps 4, v8.
