I think Easter is a time of reflection – on the good and bad in the world, on loyalty and betrayal, on kindness and cruelty. In my own head I keep coming back to the actions of one good man on the day that Christ was crucified, Joseph of Arimathea. He had the guts to ask for Jesus’s body, he had the generosity to place it in his own tomb, he provided the herbs and spices to prepare the body.
We have a legend in south-west England that Joseph travelled here and where he pushed his walking cane into the earth it immediately burst into flower – the Glastonbury Thorn. Today there are several thorn trees which apparently came from cuttings from the original tree. Is this true? Does it matter? Isn’t that what faith is all about?
I wish you a blessed Easter.
